Associated British Ports awarded 3b construction with the design and build contract to construct a bulk storage warehouse at Ayr Harbour.

For this design and build project, 3b construction provided an alternative proposal at tender stage to give the client larger buildings at reduced cost and, thereafter, delivered the project from design stage through to completion.

Construction works consisted of buildings with 7m high reinforced concrete walls with steel framed buildings constructed on top of the walls to give an eaves height of 11m.

The shape of the site was determined by the adjacent buildings. This resulted in an unusual shape of site, which made the steelwork and cladding all the more challenging.

The buildings were also surrounded on all sides by operational roads within a busy port environment.

Design stage site investigation proved that the formation was unsuitable for the proposed loading and, therefore, stone columns were constructed to a depth of 5m using the vibroflotation technique.

“3b construction know what they are doing and do it well“
