Construction of a state-of-the-art dementia unit in the Scottish Borders.
Recently completed state-of-the-art dementia unit in the Scottish Borders. The project was to complete a 27-bed state of the art facility situated on land adjacent to Queen’s House care home, which owns and operates the purpose-built unit. Officially opened by Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester on Monday 30th September. Murray House will be a centre of excellence for people living with dementia in the Scottish Borders and will create 60 new jobs for Kelso and the surrounding community. 3b construction provided a full service to deliver this state of the art building to a challenging programme within the grounds of an existing operational care home. We provided a full in-house delivery of all aspects from earthworks, groundworks, reinforced concrete raft slabs, drainage, site infrastructure and utilities. We manufactured timber frame panels at our off-site facility and delivered JIT to the site. We also provided a full mechanical and electrical, high specification fit-out, constgructed a new car park and extensive soft and hard landscaping. 3b construction quickly mobilised an all in-house resource to meet the challenging programme, co-ordinated services provided by our civil engineering, timber manufacturing and building division ensured a seamless transition throughout the project and eliminated delays. We utilised our directly employed operatives ensuring quality. Our joinery division designed, manufactured and erected the timber frames using Just-In-Time (JIT) delivery on to a very tight site. This avoided on site congestion and allowed multiple work fronts to progress concurrently reducing the lead time to getting work packages started on site. The project was delivered ahead of programme and was value engineered up front to achieve best value for our client.
